Get Started

Everything a first-time dancer needs to know. No experience, no partner, no worries.

The short version

Show up to our next social dance. You'll get a free group lesson at the start of the evening — the perfect on-ramp. Wear business casual and comfortable smooth-soled shoes. You'll be dancing within minutes.

Your three easy starting points

Come to a Social

Our monthly social dances open with a free group lesson on the dance of the evening. It's low pressure, friendly, and the best single introduction to the community.

Join a Lesson Series

Our standard lesson series begins each January, with progressive weekly classes across the foundational ballroom, Latin, and swing dances.

Try a Workshop

Throughout the year, we host focused workshops on specific dances or techniques. A great way to sample without a long-term commitment.

The most common first question

"Do I need a partner?"

No. Everyone is welcome — you can come to a dance, lesson, or workshop with a partner or by yourself. During group lessons everyone rotates partners to experience dancing with different people. It's how our community works, and it's how beginners progress fastest.

What to wear

There's no strict dress code, but everyone dresses nicely for dance occasions. Most dancers wear business casual — pants and a shirt for men, dresses or pants with a nice shirt for women. Some special dances are more formal and are advertised as such.

For shoes, we recommend smooth or leather-soled shoes that fit well and stay on your feet. Dance shoes are lovely once you're hooked, but not required to start.

How much does it cost?

Our events are affordably priced, and chapter members pay less. For specific pricing, see the lessons, social dances, and membership pages.

One more thing

The single most important skill in social dancing is leading and following — non-verbal communication between two dancers about direction, timing, and style. It sounds complex, but it's surprisingly intuitive once you start. And it's a skill that makes you better at every dance, for life.
